"Being named valedictorian is incredible," Proffitt said. "There are so many really strong students in the class is 2016. It was a goal I set for myself early on, and I worked really hard for it, and I am so glad all the hard work paid off.

Proffitt plans to attend Georgia Tech and major in biomedical engineering. After finishing his undergrad, Proffitt wants to attend graduate school.

Yu’s choice college is Georgia Tech and plans to major in Engineering or Computer Science.

Eastside High School's top ten graduates include: Nicholas Anderson, Nicole Butler, Jesse Eldell, Courtney Farrow, Jackson Hall, Angel Li, Monica Privette, Brantley Proffitt (Valedictorian), Scott Reich and Lili Yu (Salutatorian).

The Board of Education has expressed how proud they are of each Valedictorian and Salutatorian for Alcovy, Eastside and Newton High School.

“It takes a great deal of focus, dedication, and hard work to be identified at the highest level of achievement in high school — being named the valedictorian and salutatorian of your graduating class," Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey said. "These six students have taken their education seriously, and I am very proud of them. I look forward to hearing about their accomplishments in college and throughout their careers.”
