MANSFIELD, Ga. - Mansfield Baptist Church hosted Piedmont Academy’s Baccalaureate Service for the Class of 2019.  The service occurred May 5 in the church’s sanctuary.   

The service began with a processional including the speakers, faculty, and graduates. Dr. Jeff Perkins, pastor of Mansfield Baptist Church, welcomed the graduates, their families and faculty to the service, and his welcome was followed by a prayer given by graduate and class officer Ryn Smith.  

Class President Lawton Harris then introduced the audience to the Class of 2019 with an overview of its accomplishments in both athletics and academics.  Mr. David Compton, music leader of the church, then lead the worshippers in music.  

Graduate and class vice president introduced Mansfield Baptist Youth Minister Cory Craver who spoke to all concerning the importance of keeping God in one’s life, especially looking toward God as the graduates move out on their own life paths.   Craver made three important points for graduates to remember as they move forward; he also reminded parents, grandparents, and faculty that their jobs do not end on graduation day – graduates still need support and prayer.  

Following Craver’s inspirational words, graduate Rylee Owens introduced alumna Lindsay Moore who led the congregation in the Piedmont Academy Alma Mater.  Headmaster Tony Tanner was next to speak with seven godly lessons to remember.  Tanner, who has been the Piedmont headmaster since many of the graduates were 3rd graders, told students that he was always willing to help, and if anyone ever needed him, all he or she had to do was call.  The service ended with a benediction given by Class chaplain Deacon Robinson.  

Following the recessional, graduates, their families, and faculty members celebrated with refreshments served by members of the school’s junior class.  Morgan Whitley, Mackensie Johnston, Emily Mills, and Kelsey Leach served cake and punch to worshippers at the conclusion of the service.
