Newton dual enrollment students stage mock trial
Placeholder Image
Students enrolled in the Criminal Justice class at Newton High School conducted a mock trial as part of their final assignment. The students in this class are part of the Dual Enrollment program offered by DeKalb Technical College to high school students in Newton County.

The students prepared and presented witnesses and arguments supporting both the case for the prosecution and that for the defense. DeKalb Tech offered dual enrollment courses in Criminal Justice Fundamentals, Homeland Security and Certified Nursing Assistant at Newton County High School during the 2008-09 school year.

Students receive both high school and college credits for participating in and successfully completing the courses.

DeKalb Technical College offers high school students in DeKalb, Rockdale, Newton, and Morgan counties the opportunity to earn college credits while they are still attending high school. The students can earn certificates or diplomas in the following programs: Certified Nurse Assistant, Criminal Justice Fundamentals, Homeland Security Specialist, Certified Customer Service Specialist and Welding. Upon successful completion of their chosen program, credits earned by the students count towards high school graduation credits as well as college credits.

Tuition and some book costs are covered by the HOPE Grant. For more information, contact Brian Archer, Dual Enrollment Coordinator at DeKalb Tech, at 404-297-9522, ext 3106 or go to the website at
