For any parents wondering how their kids will spend their summer, a new opportunity just popped up, and Thursday, May 1 is the only day to get your name down.

Newton County School System announced a brand new tuition-based summer learning program for elementary school students currently in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program will be held at South Salem Elementary School from June 3-27 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The camp will feature academic instruction in math, reading and science and enrichment in areas such as technology, engineering, cooking and the arts. Lunch, based off a summer food program, will be provided. Participating students will go on an educational field trip every Friday.

Only 75 slots are available, and they will be filed on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost of the program includes a $25 registration fee and $130 per week per child (with a prorated first week of $104).

Registration will be held on Thursday, May 1 at the Newton County Board of Education, located at 2109 Newton Drive NE, from 5-7 p.m. For more information, contact Deena Sams at (770) 787-1330 ext. 1271.
