Eastside High School sophomore Alexander Solomon is heading to Europe this summer to get some exposure to some art masters, thanks to a $2,500 scholarship.

Alex received the check thanks to Southern Heartland Arts, Inc., Heartland Woman's Club, James P. Hayes Cardinal Scholarship Fund and additional donations made by individual members of Southern Heartlands. Also contributing were private individuals, Main Street Covington and Capes Properties.

Alex has been a volunteer counselor for two years for children's art camps and plans to help again this summer after his trip, according to a release. He is an artist and a member of Southern Heartland.
