Kindergarten roundup dates announced

Newton County School System will hold its annual Kindergarten Round?Up during the week of March 9 -12. Children must be 5-years-old by September 1 (child must have been born on or before September 1, 2004) to register for the 2008?2009 school year. Parents should bring the prospective kindergarten student with them to the roundup so teachers can conduct screenings with the children. At the time of registration, parents must provide their child’s social security card, certified birth certificate, immunization record form #3231, and hearing, vision and dental screening record form #3300. If needed, hearing and vision screening testing will be available at the schools at the time of registration. In addition, parents must also provide two proofs of residence as follows—one from each of the two categories below:

Category 1: Utility bill with name and address (only garbage, electric, water, or gas willbe accepted.

AND

Category 2: Current lease, rental agreement, or current mortgage statement.

Should the child not live with one or both parents, guardianship or custody documents will be required. Each of the school system’s 12elementary schools have designated one day during the week for kindergarten registration. School registration dates are as follows:

Middle Ridge, Palmer?Stone, & Porterdale Monday, March 9

East Newton, Rocky Plains, Oak Hill Tuesday, March 10

*Fairview, Mansfield, Livingston, South Salem Wednesday, March 11

 

Heard?Mixon, Ficquett, & West Newton Thursday, March 12

*The roundup being held at Fairview will be for students who will attend Live Oak Elementary, the new elementary school opening on Kirkland Road in August.

Hours of registration for are 8:30 a.m. ? 1:30 p.m.Parents who are unable to register on the designated day at their home school may register at one of the other elementary schools per the schedule above.
