Newton County School System has 32 students nominated to represent the district in the Governor’s Honors Program.

There are seven nominees from Alcovy High School, 13 from Eastside High and 12 from Newton High.

The enrichment program for rising juniors and seniors is held each summer at of Valdosta State University. District nominees participated in  statewide interviews in early February. Finalists will be announced on March 25. he students were nominated by their teachers for a specific instructional area matching their abilities, aptitudes and interests. In addition to submitting endorsements and grade transcripts, the nominees then had to participate in a statewide screening interview or audition depending on their desired major.
