Above the influence: Challenge Charter Academy's S.A.D.D. Chapter recently got a literal look at the hazards of driving drunk when they participated in a Fatal Vision Obstacle Course.

Fatal Vision Goggles simulate how you sees things while under the influence of alcohol, according to a release from counselor Dee Maxwell. The goggles simulate how vision is impaired at blood alcohol levels of .12 to .15, well above the legal limit of .08.

Students, including sophomore Sequoyah Mitchell (pictured), engaged in tasks that required quick reactions and for them to maintain balance and control.

The SADD Chapter is focusing on destructive decisions that students make during spring events including prom, parties, spring break and graduation. The activity was in conjunction with health lessons about the consequences of substance use and abuse.

"We really enjoyed it. It made a big difference, Maxwell said.
