Alcovy High student struck by vehicle

An 11th grade Alcovy High School student was hit by a vehicle while attempting to board his school bus around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

The teen was crossing the Ga. Highway 162 Connector to board his bus which was stopped in the southbound lane. The vehicle that struck the student was traveling north.

The student was taken to Newton Medical Center and treated for minor bruises and scratches before being released.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident as well as Newton County School System Deputy Superintendent Dennis Carpenter, who is conducting an internal investigation.
