Deputy injured in training, recuperating
Newton sheriff's deputy shot, injured in training

At approximately 2:45 p.m., the Newton County Sheriff's department received a call from the gun range on Lower River Road in reference to an officer-involved shooting during training.

The deputy sustained a non-life-threatening injury to one of his extremities and was transferred to an Atlanta medical center. He had surgery on Friday, and was released. According to NCSO public information officer Jeff Alexander the deputy is at home recuperating.

The case is currently being investigated by the office of professional standards.
