COVINGTON, Ga. – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Wednesday night shooting that left a teenager dead.

According to press release from NCSO spokesman Deputy Michael Gregg, Newton County dispatchers received a call Oct. 24 around 11:17 p.m. about gunshots at 100 Greenway Drive.

Gregg said when deputies arrived at the scene they found two victims- one male and one female- with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital.

Quentin Keyvon Martin, 16, of 100 Greenway Drive was pronounced deceased at Piedmont Newton Hospital around 1 a.m. Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said the coroner’s office started its death investigation at the hospital.

Martin was an 11th-grade student at Alcovy High School.

"This is definitely a very tragic situation," Sherri Davis, public relations director for the Newton County School System, said. "The students and staff are obviously devastated. We had a crisis response team at the school today to help assist anyone in need. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this very difficult time.”

Gregg said the second victim is at an Atlanta area hospital being treated for her wounds. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with any information is being asked to call 404-575-TIPS or the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Wade Freeman at 678-625-1445.
