COVINGTON, Ga. – The driver and passenger on a motorcycle were arrested by Covington Police Department (CPD) Monday evening after fleeing a traffic stop and later being found.

According to the CPD incident report, Officer Rory Barber was on routine patrol April 24 a little before 8 p.m. when he checked the tag on a motorcycle.  The tag check reportedly indicated that the motorcycle’s registration had been canceled and Barber attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Ross parking lot on Elm Street.

According to the report, the motorcycle turned into the parking lot and then accelerated out of it onto Alcovy Road. Barber then reportedly turned on his siren and attempted to get the motorcycle to stop. According to the report, the motorcycle accelerated to a high rate of speed and Barber deactivated his emergency equipment and followed the motorcycle at a safe speed, keeping it in his line of sight. The motorcycle was reportedly weaving in and out of lanes on Alcovy Road to get around traffic and ran a red light at the intersection of Alcovy Road and the I-20 exit 92 on/off ramp. According to the report, it turned onto Harland Drive and Barber lost sight of it.

CPD Officer Matt Holbrook reportedly then observed the motorcycle on Hwy-142 traveling south toward the interstate at speeds in excess of 65 mph. According to the report, it turned right onto Independence Drive, where Holbrook conducted the traffic stop.

The motorcycle’s driver was identified by his North Carolina ID card as Casey Sealy. According to the report, dispatch confirmed that he was unlicensed. The passenger was identified by her Georgia driver’s license as Taylor Thompson, who reportedly had active warrants out of Gwinnett County.

According to the report, Sealy was arrested and transported to the Newton County Jail charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, driving without a license and reckless driving. Thompson was transported to the jail and placed on hold for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.
