COVINGTON, Ga. – A student reportedly had a knife at a Newton County middle school Friday morning.
According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a school resource officer at Indian Creek Middle School on the Covington Bypass was notified Oct. 20 of a student in possession of a knife.
NCSO spokesman Sgt. Michael Cunningham said a teacher observed the knife fall from the student’s pocket. According to Cunningham, a juvenile complaint was done and forwarded to Juvenile Court.
"Weapons on campus are strictly prohibited," Newton County School System Public Relations Director Sherri Davis-Viniard said. "We notified law enforcement regarding this matter and the student will also be disciplined for violating the student code of conduct."
