Student charged after bringing knife to school
Rise Academy

COVINGTON, Ga. – A Rise Academy student has been charged in a juvenile complaint for having a knife at school, according to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The student reportedly attempted to enter the school with a red and black pocket knife in his jacket.

A NCSO spokesman said metal detectors at the school alerted the staff to the knife.

“Weapons on campus are not permitted," Newton County School System spokesperson Sherri Davis-Viniard said in a statement. "As a result, the student has been charged with violating the student code of contact.”
