NCSO seeking information about bus stop incident

COVINGTON, Ga. – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is investigating an incident that occurred at a school bus stop yesterday.

According to a press release from NCSO spokesperson Sgt. Cortney Morrison, on Aug. 17 around 7:30 a.m. deputies received a suspicious activity call regarding a tall, black male stopping and approaching a 15-year-old female at the bus stop located at Lake Charles Crossing and Smith Store Road. According to the release, the female was able to run home, notify adults and contact law enforcement.

Morrison said on Aug. 18 around 7:30 a.m., the complainant from the Aug. 17 call observed the same vehicle in the area and notified law enforcement immediately. According to the release, deputies were able to conduct a traffic stop and identify the driver.

According to the release, the NCSO Criminal Investigation Division has been notified and the case has been assigned to an investigator for follow up.
