NCSO H.E.A.T. Unit reports St. Patricks Day weekend stats

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Unit tallies more than 100 traffic violations, including nine driving under the influence (DUI) charges over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend.

NCSO Corporal Jacob Rice, the road supervisor of the unit, said the unit made five arrests for DUI and assisted other agencies with four DUI arrests.

The H.E.A.T. unit also issued warnings or citations for 57 speeding violations and 46 seatbelt violations.

The unit was out in force Friday and Saturday nights targeting drunk drivers, aggressive drivers, speeders and seatbelt violations.
