Murder suspect denied bond

COVINGTON, Ga. – Rita Dugar, charged in the Feb. 28 murder of a Covington man, was denied bond at a hearing in Newton County Superior Court today.

Dugar, 26, was indicted Friday by a grand jury in Newton County on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She is accused of shooting and killing Jon Trevor Townley.

According to a press release from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO), at the time of the shooting, Townley was involved in an argument with another male at the scene when Dugar fired a shot in his direction, striking and killing him.
