Man reportedly hits woman in face walking down the street

COVINGTON, Ga. - Police are looking for a man who reportedly hit a woman in the face as she walked down Highway 278 Tuesday.

According to a Covington Police Department incident report, the victim said that she was struck in the face by an unknown male as she walked to a store at around 10:40 p.m. June 19.

The victim reportedly told police that as she was walking north on Highway 278 as the male was walking south near West Street. According to the report, she said as she passed the male, he punched her in the mouth without saying anything.

He then reportedly said, “My bad. I thought you were somebody else.”

The victim told police the male continued south on Highway 278. The suspect is described as a tall, black male with a skinny build. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a tan hat.

According to the report, at about 11:15 p.m. an officer located a man matching the description of the alleged assaulter at the intersection of West Street and Cannon Street but the victim did not identify him as the person who hit her.
