Cash taken during Independence Day gas station burglary

COVINGTON, Ga. – Investigators with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are looking for the person who broke into a Highway 11 gas station last Wednesday and made off with cash.

According to a NCSO incident report, deputies responding to a burglar alarm at the Marathon station at 1814 Highway 11 S. just before 6 a.m. July 4 found that somebody had forced entry into the business through the back door causing damage to the door. The thief reportedly made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

An NCSO spokesman said the suspect was wearing a black jacket, black pants and red gloves. The cash was the only thing reported missing.
