BREAKING: Early morning homicide reported in Covington

COVINGTON, Ga. - Around 2:31 this morning, a fight broke out at the intersection of Chaney Drive and Puckett Street, in Covington, leading to shots fired.

According to a news release from Covington Police Department (CPD) spokesperson Allan Seebaran, CPD responded to a person shot call at Puckett Street to find Trayvond Bernard Ball, 22, of Covington, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers and EMS rendered aid, but Ball subsequently died.

Later, Doylmarrian S. Hardeman, 33, of Covington, arrived at Piedmont Newton Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Hardeman was transported to a trauma center in Atlanta where he is currently being treated. According to the release, Hardeman was not at the crime scene when the officers arrived.

During the investigation, officers discovered prior to the shooting a group of approximately 20 people were gathered at the Chaney Drive, Puckett Street intersection.

“At some point an argument was started amongst the group resulting in shots fired,” according to the release.

Ball and Hardeman are the only two people shot that CPD is aware of at this time, according to the release.

CPD spoke with eyewitnesses and are continuing to investigate the case.

“CPD investigators believe that there are more eyewitnesses and would like to speak with them to get closure in this case,” according to the release.

At this time there are no charges being filed as investigators continue to look for information from eyewitnesses.
