A 21-year-old Covington man has been arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, enticing a child for indecent purposes and violation of the computer pornography and child exploitation act.
Investigators at the Newton County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Comanche County, Okla. Sheriff's Office who was investigating Cox for allegedly having inappropriate conversations online with an 11-year-old girl.
The child's mother discovered that her daughter had been in some children's sites and chat rooms when an older man introduced himself to her and reportedly initiated a "very sexual conversation" with her, according to NCSO Lt. Keith Crum. Authorities in Newton County became involved became Cox lives locally.
NCSO investigators began looking into the accusations from the child and her mother in Oklahoma and arrested Cox on Aug. 19. They also confiscated his computer which was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an intense forensic examination, following indications there may be child pornography both sent and received from the computer.
Michael Blake Cox remains in the Newton County Detention Center as of press time, with a bond amount of $20,000.
