A routine traffic stop for a faulty tail light resulted in a Covington man on the wrong end of a stun gun and his arrest on multiple drug-related charges.
Covington police reported they stopped a Chevrolet Blazer with a tail light out about 12:26 a.m. Sunday on Washington Street.
According to reports:
The driver, 33-year-old Keven Walker, was asked to leave the vehicle and talk with officers. Police reported that they noticed an aroma of marijuana in the vehicle and saw green leaf-like pieces and cigar papers on the front seat. They conducted a pat-down search of Walker, which yielded nothing.
They asked Walker if they could search his vehicle and if they could conduct a more intrusive search of his person, to which he agreed. Police report that when they found a bag inside the front of Walker's pants, Walker pushed off from one of the officers and began to run.
Police report that one officer deployed his Taser. Walker fell to the ground and yelled, "O.K., you got me."
Taser probes were removed from Walker's right shoulder blade and the seat of his pants.
A cloth bag was pinned inside his pants. Police reported that it contained three plastic bags with what was believed to be marijuana, crack cocaine, ecstasy and Xanax.
Walker was charged with possession of Schedule II drugs, possession, manufacturing or distribution of a controlled substance, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana and obstruction or hindering law-enforcement officers, according to Newton County Detention Center records. Property bonds were set at $16,500 for his release.
