A Covington man was one of three arrested during a Conyers Police Department prostitution sting at a Conyers hotel Wednesday.
Marquaris Clements was one of the panderers, or “johns,” nabbed in the sting. He was also wanted out of another agency for violation of probation and possessed marijuana upon showing up to the scene.
The CPD said the operation’s purpose was to identify and arrest individuals who are involved in the business of soliciting for sex. The officers used social media to communicate with several individuals and arrest the three men who came to the hotel to meet the “prostitute”.
“Social media has become an easy way for individuals who would not, in many cases, involve themselves in prostitution to conduct such activities in and across many jurisdictions,” Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson said. “This is not a problem unique to our city and county. Prostitution commonly breeds greater and more dangerous circumstances and opportunity for serious crime.”
Clements, 27, was arrested for pandering and possession of marijuana and was wanted for violation of probation.
The other two men arrested for pandering are Vincente Juarez Hernandez, 38, of Conyers and Tovaris Nathaniel Barnett, 25, of Stone Mountain.
