Prostitution activity continues to keep the Conyers Police Department busy at area motels and last week's arrest of two men who allegedly met on a prostitution website and arranged a tryst at the Conyers Inn marks the fourth such incident in the last two months.

Recent robberies, auto break-ins and prostitution complaints have led to increased patrolling of area motels in recent months, including last Tuesday evening when an officer saw what he believed to be female exit the registration office at Conyers Inn on Dogwood Drive and motion to a man to follow her to a room. The arrest report states the officer approached the room and confronted the two occupants who appeared to be engaged in sexual activity. It had been less than 20 minutes since the officer spotted the two walking to the room.

According to the report, 53-year-old David Howard Waite, of Hamilton, Ga., said he met 25-year-old Samad Gonzales on a dating website. Gonzales allegedly told the officer he is from Newark, New Jersey but recently purchased a house in Covington and had met Waite through an ad placed on a prostitution website called backpage.com. The arrest report stated Waite told the officer he planned to take Gonzales out to dinner after meeting at the hotel.

Gonzales was arrested and charged with prostitution and Waite was charged with pandering. Officers allegedly found $100 in cash on the floor in the hotel room.
