It’s been 21 years since the TV series “In the Heat of the Night” went off the air, but for fans of the Southern crime drama, the series lives on in Covington.
On Saturday, October 10, cast and fans will reunite in Covington, which served as the setting for the fictional Sparta, Mississippi, to celebrate the award winning show.
The day begins with a meet and greet at the Historic Courthouse on the Square at 9 a.m. On hand will be Alan Autry, Captain Bubba Skinner; Maureen Dowdell, Nurse Tracy Boggs; Randall Franks, Officer Randy Goode; Afemi Omilami, Jimmy Dawes; and Dee Shaw, Corporal Dee Shepherd.
At 1 p.m., photograph and autograph sessions will be held at 1150 Monticello Street. A self-guided map gives fans a chance to visit familiar sites such as “Magnolia Café,” on Monticello Street, the Tibbs home on Conyers Street, the Sparta Police Station on Monticello Street.
Drive Time will play songs from the show at a concert in the park, beginning at 7 p.m.
