Retiring poll managers honored at reception
0219Board-of-Elections

Three retiring poll managers with the Newton County Board of Elections were honored during a reception Wednesday morning at the county administration building.

Bobby Savage was honored for 19 years, Zelma Stewart for 18 years and Johnnie Campbell for 12 years of service to the voters of Newton County.

Each honoree was presented with a plaque commemorating their service by Board Chairman Hugh Steele and Democratic Appointee Jeanette Perry.

Chairman Steele said that poll managers are responsible setting up the equipment, finding poll workers and opening the polls on election-day. Before touchscreen voting, poll managers were also responsible for securing and transporting the ballots, according to Mr. Savage.
