GDOT to host Hwy. 212 bridge replacement meeting May 22
GDOT

COVINGTON Ga. - The public is invited to a May 22 Georgia DOT open house to view and discuss proposals to replace the State Route 212 bridge at Lake Jackson.

Officials will be available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Alcovy High School Cafeteria, 14567 Highway 36, Covington. There isn't a formal presentation and citizens may document comments via written or verbal court reporter submission.

The proposed Lake Jackson bridge replacement sits at the Jasper and Newton County line. Plans currently show the estimated total investment of $13 million not requiring an off-site detour during construction, as the new bridge will be built parallel to the current structure.

Estimated construction time is 24 months and will likely begin in Fall 2020.
