The Newton County Board of Education and Snapping Shoals EMC helped out the county recently by donating used vehicles.

The school board donated two retired school buses to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, which will use them to transport prisoners to and from court. The value of the two 1992 International 3800 buses is not known.

In addition, Snapping Shoals donated a 1997 Ford Aerostar van to Newton County Senior Services to be used for the Meals on Wheels program. The van had 132,870 miles on it and is valued at $1,675.

The Newton County Board of Commissioners approved both donations Tuesday.

Also, the committees that will oversee the 2011 SPLOST projects have been formed, but some proposed members have yet to be contacted and haven't officially agreed to serve. The projects range from the $55,000 indigent cemetery to the $7 million expansion of the Newton County Judicial Center.
