The Newton High School band performed at a community health fair Saturday.
The health care was a combined effort of the Newton County NAACP, Newton County Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.
The groups offered health screenings and sponsored a mercury hair test to inform citizens about the harmful effects of coal plants, which emit mercury. The groups are protesting plans for two new coal plants in Georgia, which are being pursued by local electricity provider Snapping Shoals EMC in partnership with Cobb EMC and others providers.
