The four Covington city council candidates will answer questions from the public at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Covington City Hall.

The Newton County Voters League is hosting the open political forum which will last until 9 p.m.

The only contested race is the Council Post 2 West seat between Councilwoman Hawnethia Williams and former Councilman Charles Wilborn in a rematch of the 2005 election, where Williams unseated Wilborn, who had been in office for 14 years.

Post 3 West Councilwoman Ocie Franklin and newcomer Chris Smith, co-owner of Newton Electric Supply, are running uncontested, but will still be available to answer questions. Smith is taking over for Post 1 East Councilman John Howard.
