City buys generators for medically dependent

Covington recently purchased eight generators that can be provided in a power outage to city residents who are on oxygen.

The Covington Fire Department now has 10 generators, City Manager Steve Horton said in an e-mail. If a resident has a doctor’s letter on file with the city stating that they require continuous electrical power because of health issues, they can receive a generator during a power outage. The fire department will deliver a portable generator and retrieve it once  power has been restored, Horton said. He did not know when this service was started, but knew it had been in place for many years.
