SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. — Part of a Social Circle street remained closed Monday morning, a day after a train derailment.

Rail cars overturned Sunday on tracks along Willow Drive. The street was closed Sunday between the East Hightower Trail bridge and Oak Drive, and a portion remained closed Monday as crews worked to clear the cars.

A CSX representative said no one was injured when the train, bound for Lithonia, derailed at about 11 a.m. Sunday.

Three rail cars derailed. No hazardous materials were involved. One of the cars spilled dry cement.

“CSX crews are actively working to clean up the derailed cars so we can safely resume normal train operations,” a spokesperson said. “CSX appreciates the patience of our neighbors in Social Circle as we work as safely and quickly as possible to fully restore the area.”
