OXFORD, Ga. – Effective June 1, household garbage and recyclables will be picked up on different days in Oxford.
While regular trash will continue to be picked up on Tuesdays, materials for recycling will now be picked up on Thursday.
The Oxford city council agreed to the change requested by Latham Home Sanitation after it was presented by Assistant City Manager Matt Pepper.
“Latham has requested that the city change their recycling pick up from Tuesday,” he said. “Right now what we are doing is we pick up recycling garbage on one day, Tuesdays. They’re requesting that we change that from Tuesdays to Thursdays for recycling only.
“Part of the discussion having been that they say 15 to 20 percent of our residents recycle and it would be a way for them to group our pick up with neighboring areas. It would save on their operating costs, which would essentially trickle down to their customers.”
City Superintendent Jody Reid said the change will not affect yard debris pick up.
According to a flyer placed in resident’s recycling bins May 29, Latham said the recycling market has taken a downturn and the cost to pick up and process commodities has increased.
