Roundabout set to open Nov. 30

The roundabout at Turner Lake Road and Clark Street is set to open at 10 a.m. Nov. 30, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The city government will mark completion of the project with a ribbon cutting and press conference at the opening.

The roundabout is opening on a Tuesday because the state typically avoids opening new intersections on Mondays or Fridays, which are higher traffic days, said Terry Savage of the city’s transportation department. The state also avoids opening intersections during holiday weeks.

According to a release from the state, drivers should yield at entry into a roundabout, because traffic inside has right of way. You turn right into a roundabout. Traffic moves counterclockwise around the center island then turns right to exit.

You can watch a video on how to use a roundabout at the Washington State Department of Transportation’s website, wsdot.wa.gov/safety/roundabouts.

Once the roundabout is fully operational, Old Clark Street at Turner Lake Road will be permanently closed to through traffic.
