Mayor Johnston advocates for voter participation
SPLOST

Covington Mayor Ronnie Johnston encouraged everyone to get out and vote during his comments Monday night at the Covington City Council meeting.

“If you’ve not gone to the polls, please do so,” he said. “I’m not advocating what you do, but I am advocating that you take part of the process and it is extremely important.”

He said there are varying opinions throughout the community and a way to make those opinions heard is to go to the polls.

“There is a lot of people with a lot of different opinions but those people who don’t take those opinions and go to the polls I have a very short fuse with those folks because we need people to get involved,” he said. “The stronger the community is the more people that get involved. It’s not about which way it goes, it’s about more people getting involved for me.”

Tuesday, March 21 is Election Day for the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). Precincts throughout the county will be open until 7 p.m. for the vote.
