One man was killed and a woman remains in critical condition following a head-on collision on Lower River Road Wednesday afternoon.

Larry John Marchesseau, 68, was killed instantly when a 2006 Honda entered his lane and hit his vehicle head-on. According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Shaun Browder, the driver of the Honda went around a curve heading south and travelled into the northbound lane of traffic, striking Marchesseau’s 1985 Chevrolet C20.

Both drivers had to be extracted from their vehicles by the Jaws of Life. The 39-year-old female driver, who has been identified as Annie Evan Glodowski, was flown to Atlanta Medical Center. According to Browder, both of her legs were broken.

"The Chevrolet tried to get out of way, but there just wasn’t time," Browder said. "The driver of the Honda attempted to stop — there were skid marks — but it happened too fast."

According to Browder, the GSP is still investigating, but there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Browder said charges against Glodowski are pending.

"Exceptional is only a fraction of how good a man Larry was," said family friend Tracy Shaff, one of the many people who expressed their grief at the news of his death. "The world was truly a better place with him in it."
