Once again, the Covington Lions will hold a Covington Idol competition at their Oct. 9-10 Sherman’s Last Burning Fall Festival and BBQ Cook-Off at Legion Field on Mill Street. This time, however, a Jr. Idol (for 17 and under) is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. The Covington Idol (for 18 and older) is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. The Lions promise these two events will be the highlight of the Fall Festival.

Contestants in each category will compete for cash prizes. First place will receive $200 and a recording session, second place will receive $150 and third place will receive $100. Contestants must submit one recorded song on a cassette tape, CD or DVD (background music is allowed) — note that contestant name must not be listed on the CD, only the song title. A $20 entry fee in the form of a check or money order must be made payable to the Covington Lions Club and the contestant must submit name, age (DOB), mailing address, telephone number and song title (The check is non-refundable). A photograph must be included and may be used in advertisements. Contestants 17 and under must have a parent or legal guardian co-sign with the contestant. Entries must be postmarked by Aug. 22 to the Covington Lions Club, 55 High Point Forest Drive, Covington, GA 30016.

An anonymous panel of judges will review entries and select 15 finalists from each Idol contest. Finalists will perform in the final round at the Fall Festival. Any decision made by the panel of judges as to the selection of finalists will be considered final. Finalists will be notified by September 18. Finalists are limited to a maximum of four minutes. Selections should have already been made and practiced before the sign-off date. Finalists must adhere to the time allotment or they will be "hooked."
