The City of Covington welcomed three new police officers Monday night during the Covington City Council meeting.

Mayor Ronnie Johnston administered new officers Austin Knight, Rory Barber and Mark Joyner their oaths of office at the start of the meeting.

Knight and Barber recently graduated from the POST Training Academy and Joyner comes to the Covington Police Department (CPD) from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO).

Each of the council members offered their congratulations and well wishes to the new officers.

Councilmembers Josh McKelvey and Michael Whatley were absent from the meeting. McKelvey was out of town for business and Whatley was unable to attend because he was sick.
