The City of Covington is hiring for airport positions as it prepares to assume operations of the Covington Municipal Airport in mid-December.

The city wants to hire three temporary, contract employees. You can apply online on the city’s website, cityofcovington.org, by clicking on the "Departments" tab at the top of the page and then selecting the "Human Resources" department.

An "Airport Ground Operations Supervisor" positions is listed with a salary range of $42,827 to $57,387, depending on experience and skill level. The supervisor will oversee operations at the airport, coordinate schedules of employees and manage two technicians. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalency, at least six years of experience in ground and facilities maintenance and operations and be able to obtain and maintain proper licenses.

The city will also hire two part-time ground operation technicians at a salary range of $24,148 to $32,365. The employees must be able to respond to emergencies, and work overtime, nights and weekends when needed. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalency, three years of experience in ground and facilities maintenance and operations and be able to obtain and maintain proper licenses.

Airport Engineer Vincent Passariello, who was hired in August, will continue to supervise the airport in a managerial role, Personnel Director Ronnie Cowan said previously.

In related airport news, the Covington City Council went into executive session at its Monday meeting to discuss its mediation attempt with Dixie Jet Services, the current manager of the airport. City Attorney Ed Crudup said Monday that the two sides had not yet reached an agreement.

Dixie Jet contends it is owed more than the $367,389 that its contract with the city calls for under the early termination clause. In lieu of filing a lawsuit, Dixie Jet asked the city to go through mediation.
