Chambers wins Porterdale council seat, Social Circle liquor by the drink ammendment passed

Porterdale City Council Post 5

Candidate Lowell Chambers won the Post 5 city council seat in a landslide. There were 51 votes for Lowell, 8 for Andy L. Grimes, and 8 write-in votes for Wayne Maddox.

Lowell gained the seat that former councilmember Kay Piper resigned in early November 2008 due to health reasons.

Social Circle liquor by the drink referendum

Social Circle voters passed the amendment to allow the sales of liquor by the drink at restaurants by a wide margin of 76 votes, or 26 percent. There were 180 votes in favor of the amendment and 104 against. Twelve percent of registered, active voters turned out for the referendum.
