Jerry Chadwick “Chad” Baker, III, son of Jerry and Charity Baker of Covington, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Sept. 24.
Baker, a senior at Walnut Grove High School, worked with the Monastery of the Visitation in Snellville for his Eagle Award project. Working with a team, he removed a 50-year-old entrance sign, replacing it with a new High Density Urethane (HDU) sign and raised stone bed.

Baker also worked to clear a large overgrown prayer area at the rear of the monastery. A member of Troop 598, chartered by American Legion Post 127 in Buford, Baker served as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Chaplain’s Aid and has earned 25 merit badges.
