The 2014 Newton County Special Olympics officially kicked off Monday at Sharp Stadium, showering its athletes with adoration with the opening Parade of Athletes.
The Special Olympics served nearly 500 athletes this year with hundreds of volunteers on hand.
After Opening Ceremonies concluded Monday, local middle school, high school and adult master athletes took the field at Sharp Stadium on Tuesday, competing in traditional events like the 50 meter dash, the long jump and the softball toss.
On Wednesday, Newton County's elementary school students had their chance to show what they were made of, brigning smiles and heart to the events.
The week-long celebration concluded Friday with Closing Ceremonies at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers.
Athletes were awarded medals for placing first, second and third in their events, receiving their
honors in front of the Special Olympics' Olympic Torch.
