Local Walmart awards scholarship

Walmart Store, located on Industrial Boulevard in Covington, recently awarded an academic scholarship to Money Center associate Iyanna Alexander. A Walmart Associate Scholarship in the amount of $1500 was presented by store manager Jerome Adkins and assistant store manager Dan Brown during a store meeting of associates. Special guests included Iyanna's mother Sharon Alexander of Covington and Lillian Bittaye, her mentor with the Sojourner Truth Program. The festivities included the check presentation, a cake to commemorate the occasion and a gift card to purchase college souvenirs when she arrives on campus. Iyanna is pursuing a degree in medical laboratory science at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah after graduating from Heritage High in Rockdale County. Iyanna plans to return to the Covington Walmart to work during college breaks and holidays.

Hundreds of Walmart Associate Scholarships are awarded throughout the company to part-time and full-time associates who are seeking a higher education. The scholarships are renewable for up to $16,000 for six years applied to various degrees.
