Jazzercise, the world’s leading dance fitness program, is opening its newest fitness center in Covington.

The Jazzercise Covington Fitness Center will be located at 10704 Bypass Road at the intersection of Ga. Highway 36 across from the CVS pharmacy, and will offer 10 classes a week.

The center will also offer Personal Touch, a personal training program as well as Junior Jazzercise, led by instructor Lindsey Moore.

Classes begin April 1 and a grand opening celebration will be held in May with two free demo classes Monday at 9:30 a.m. and Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who registers with Jazzercise Covington Fitness Center during these days will receive a charter member discount.

"Jazzercise is so popular in the Atlanta area that we found it necessary to open our own facility in Covington," Moore said. "We can now offer our customers a great workout in a brand new fitness center and expand our class offerings."

A 60-minute Jazzercise class offers a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and Latin-style movements set to a variety of popular music. Each class includes a warm-up, high-energy aerobic routines, muscle toning and cool-down stretch segment for people of all ages and fitness levels.

The workout program was founded in 1969 by Judi Sheppard Missett, who turned her love of jazz dance into a worldwide exercise phenomenon. Jazzercise now has a network of 7,800 instructors, teaching more than 32,000 classes weekly in 32 countries.
