Steve Kapp has served as president of Sunbelt Builders, founded by his father-in-law Sam B. Hay Jr. in 1982, for four years.

Since its beginning, Sunbelt has dotted this region of the country with buildings from churches to hospitals.

"We are a design-build contractor," Kapp said, "and we specialize in commercial construction and especially serve the commercial healthcare, faith-based and municipal areas."

Recent examples of Sunbelt's work include Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Covington, the Newton County Maintenance Industrial Building, a 42,000-square-foot gymnasium for the Walton County Recreation Department, a 42-bed acute care hospital in Athens and the shops of Blue Willow Village in Social Circle.

Kapp also said Sunbelt is well acquainted in working with nonprofit organizations such as the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club of greater Atlanta.

"We serve the entire metro Atlanta area," Kapp said, "and in the past 24 months, we've even completed a project in Hartselle, Ala."

A current, visible Sunbelt project in progress is a new Newton County fire department on Brown Bridge Road.

Kapp said Sunbelt differs from other construction companies because of the dedication of the company's 28 employees to "do the right thing."

"We always make the effort to make sure our customers are No. 1," Kapp said.

He added that Sunbelt's customers are his best advertisers because word of mouth can make or break a company in the construction business. He continued saying meeting clients is his favorite part of his job.

"I deal with such a diverse group of people - people that I never would have met otherwise."
