COVINGTON, Ga. – The 2018 Regional Job Fair will provide the chance of employment at more than 50 local companies, governmental agencies and staffing services serving Newton, Walton, Morgan, Greene and Jasper Counties.
“This year’s job fair industry participants are representing greater than 700 job/career opportunities that are currently open,” David Bernd, vice president of economic development for Covington/Newton County Economic Development, said. “With our region’s unemployment rate now hovering in the high 3’s, to low 4’s, we want to give every opportunity to our local residents first.
“The continued growth/success/partnership of our regional job fair is critical for our region’s economic success, that coupled with a multi-county workforce development strategy is critical, as we anticipate the creation of several thousand jobs over the next several of years.”
New to the event this year is the partnership with Greene County.
“Employment is not local; it doesn’t necessarily respect jurisdictional boundries,” Sam Young, economic development director for Greene County, said. “We have a need for employees in Greene County and they might not always be here locally. We need to look outside and the same for everyone else.
