The Covington Family YMCA is recognizing Brent Bennett as its 2009 volunteer of the year. Bennett will be honored at the Metro Atlanta YMCA annual volunteer recognition dinner Nov. 5 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

For more than eight years, Bennett has worked developing the soccer program for the Covington YMCA. As director, he has organized every aspect of the soccer program and steps into referee positions when needed. Honored for his commitment to keep children active and on a positive life track, Bennett is always there to encourage the children on and off the soccer field.

“As a qualified coach and former semi-pro soccer player, I choose to coach soccer for the YMCA because they are truly focused on the community at hand. Kids are given the opportunity to grow and focus on their talents. The Y is all about physical and social development,” said Bennett.

A resident of Covington, Bennett works for the DeKalb County Director of Motor Vehicles as deputy tax commissioner. Bennett and his wife, Nyasha, have three soccer-playing sons.

The YMCA is a charitable organization open to people of all abilities, ages, beliefs, cultures, faiths and incomes. Financial assistance is available based on need. For more information, visit cvy.ymcaatlanta.org, or call (770)778-3908.
