DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County officials say a 10-year-old boy died after being hit by a personal watercraft on Lake Lanier.

Dawson County Emergency Services Battalion Chief Milton Keller says the county's emergency services responded to a call Wednesday afternoon, following a report that a juvenile had been hit by a watercraft while on the lake.

Keller said the victim and his brother, both from McLean, Va., were riding separate watercraft when the accident occurred.

Emergency personnel say the child, whose name has not been released, was in and out of consciousness after they arrived.

The child was airlifted to Scottish Rite Hospital where he died from what Keller called "blood loss from internal injuries."
