A new position of Transportation Engineer will be created within Newton County after a motion was made during a special called meeting Tuesday.
On Dec. 1 the board of commissioners (BOC) voted to move Aaron Wadley from under Chair Keith Ellis’s roads and bridges department to under the county manager as County Engineer. In doing so a position in the roads and bridges department was vacated.
Interim Newton County Attorney Ken Jarrard put a motion in front of the board Tuesday to ratify the BOC’s transfer of Wadley effective Dec. 1, and to create two new positions in the roads and bridges department.
Now that the new job classification has been created by the BOC’s unanimous vote Tuesday, Chair Keith Ellis will move to fill the new positions.
The positions, according to Ellis, will not cost the taxpayers a difference in salary, due to several positions in roads and bridges being unfilled.
“Tax payers won’t have any obligation, and we will be able to better suit their needs,” Ellis said. “We won’t have to use outside sources anymore.”
