Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office were called out to a home late Tuesday night in regards to a family fight and found that a 14-year-old boy had to defend his mother from her husband's fists, according to reports.

When the deputies arrived they were met at the front door of the home by 34-year-old Jason Dobbs who reportedly took on an "aggressive stance" and started yelling "come on" at the deputies, while they walked toward the home.
 

Deputies placed Dobbs in handcuffs and into the back of a patrol car for their safety, and while doing so allegedly noticed that he had marks on his face and neck which appeared to be from an altercation. When he was secured, they made their way inside the home and met with his wife who reportedly told them she and Dobbs had been arguing over his "being drunk again."

According to reports, the victim told deputies that the argument became physical and Dobbs struck her and forced her to the ground in the living room of the home and pushed her head into the couch. Her 14-year-old son - Dobbs' stepson - reportedly came in and started fighting with his stepfather in order to defend his mother.

The fight between the juvenile and Dobbs spilled over into the kitchen, according to reports, and the victim was reportedly unable to break the two up. Also in the kitchen during the fight were the victim's two other children - both juveniles as well. Once the victim was able to get on the phone to call for help from law enforcement, the juvenile and Dobbs allegedly stopped fighting.

After the fight Dobbs reportedly picked up one of the younger children and starting walking around with her, refusing to put her down. Deputies noted in their report that the child had blood in her hair from Dobbs' injuries.

The 14-year-old boy reportedly told deputies that he thought Dobbs was "going to kill his mother so he stepped in to keep him from causing her anymore harm." He allegedly told the deputies that he struck Dobbs only after he saw him "slam his mother's head into the couch." Additionally, he said that when he started to defend his mother Dobbs really began to fist fight with him and that the two younger children watched the incident unfold, according to reports.

According to deputies the kitchen and part of the living room of the home were in a state of disarray and a key had been broken off in the deadbolt lock of the back door during the incident. All of the children - including the 14-year-old - were crying uncontrollably and "visibly upset."

Dobbs was arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center where he was charged with cruelty to children in the second degree, simple battery and criminal trespass.
